We often assume that everyone knows everything about gay men’s saunas, but we forget that there are always people who have heard about them and still have many questions. We have gathered the questions that interested visitors have most frequently asked us over the past 23 years, either on various forums or in person.
Many gay men are intrigued by the idea of getting closer to someone they have seen at the beach or in a spa. However, this often remains just a fantasy, even if there might otherwise be an opportunity.
Well, a gay sauna is a place where this is possible – here you can do more than just look around. You can socialize, get to know others, and there are areas in saunas where you can get physically close to one another.
“You can freely let your eyes wander, and you’ll be part of that scenery too. Then your eyes meet, one of you smiles, the other smiles back, and before you know it, you’re heading to one of the lockable cabins.”
– Pride Community forum
Gay saunas are popular with both locals and visitors from abroad because many fears can be left behind there – there’s no need to worry about getting into trouble, being chased away, facing serious consequences, or being found out, etc. Here, to some extent, everyone is gay; it’s a place where you can try, meet others, and even… in certain areas of Magnum, it is possible to engage in sexual encounters.
Magnum Sauna is visited by men over the age of 18 who are gay, bisexual, or curious.
Those who prefer younger guys should aim to visit the sauna on weekdays after 5:00 PM and on weekends. Guests who prefer a more mature crowd are encouraged to visit on weekdays from opening until the afternoon, or on Wednesdays, when the 50+ age group is typically present.
On weekdays, the busiest time is every day between 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM.
Wednesday afternoons are especially popular, mainly among our more mature guests and those who prefer them.
On weekends (Friday and Saturday), this busy period lasts longer and usually peaks around 10:00–11:00 PM. On Fridays, this is largely due to the very popular Dark and Naked Party. Sundays are generally calmer, but there is still a good turnout—especially around 5:00–6:00 PM, when the Sunday Dark Party takes place.
We have an upstairs sauna complex, a steam room (with a brighter area and a more dimly lit section), shower facilities, and lockable lockers in the changing room. In the sauna complex—what we call our Sauna World—you can enjoy numerous relaxation and wellness options: Finnish sauna, bio sauna, infrared cabin, salt cabin, bucket shower, jet shower, rain shower… it’s almost impossible to list them all.
You can also request a massage from our professional massage therapist. There is a bar offering a variety of drinks and food, which you can enjoy in the lounge area.
In addition, we have other areas that we refer to as the Cruising Area. There are lockable cabins if you’d like some private time with someone. A glory hole area for those interested in anonymous encounters. A large sex cinema with various films. Fantasy rooms with a sling, a medical chair, a cage-style cabin, as well as a smaller sex cinema featuring more hardcore films.
The Seraglio is a calmer, more relaxed area with smaller cabins, the largest cabin in the sauna, and a large lounging space. After the Seraglio, you’ll also find a dark room.
Upon entry, you will receive a towel, a locker key, a condom, and slippers are also available free of charge upon request. You go into the changing room, undress completely, wrap the towel around your waist, and lock your clothes and valuables in the locker.
For some people, this level of nudity can already feel uncomfortable. You may wear swimwear or underwear under the towel, and you can also request an extra towel for a fee to drape over your shoulders. If you wear underwear inside the Magnum area, you are not allowed to enter the jacuzzi in it—only full nudity is permitted there.
Some guests have various fetishes and practices; you may bring related items—such as stockings, underwear, or dildos—into one of the cabins, where you can explore your fantasies with a partner.
Full nudity is allowed everywhere except in the entrance area (Reception) and the Lounge, where wearing a towel is mandatory.
“As a matter of fact, I’ve never been to Magnum myself, but I’d love to go with someone who could show me what really goes on there…”

We completely understand these kinds of fears. You may not know how discreet the place is, or what might happen to you there. Most people worry about ending up alone and not having anyone to connect with.
In reality, most guests come alone. If you arrive with company, it’s often harder to explore—you’re less likely to wander off and more likely to stick with the group you came with. Believe it or not, it’s much easier to discover the Cruising area on your own.
And if you feel that you do need some company, don’t hesitate to ask the staff at the bar for help. They’re happy to answer your questions, give you a tour of the sauna, and explain the different possibilities available. There are often guests chatting in the entrance area as well—you might find that they join the conversation too.
“Feel free to come alone and explore yourself down there, in the basement labyrinth, discovering the different forms of pleasure. There are always guys in the common areas, especially in the dark, steamy steam room.”

If you read the forums, you’ll realize that this is what everyone is curious about. You too. However, let’s make one thing clear in advance: matchmaking is not part of the sauna’s services—the venue itself is what’s provided. So whether anything happens to you depends entirely on you.
The most popular areas of the sauna are the following: the steam room, especially the darker section. If you’re not shy, almost anything can happen there.
In the glory hole cabins, you lock yourself in, sit down, and wait—before long, someone will enter the neighboring cabin and peek through the hole. Around the cabins, some people wait next to them, or inside with the doors left open. You can also check out the cinema, in case someone is sitting there waiting in the audience. In the cruising basement, the situation is similar to the cabin area; this space is chosen by those who enjoy bolder fantasies.
The Seraglio’s shared lounging area offers the best cinematic experience. You simply lie down, loosen your towel… and watch the movie… Soon others may join you—and it might even start right there.
After this area, you’ll find the dark room, which is the sauna’s second most visited spot. Similar experiences can await you as in the steam room, but in dry conditions—though it’s much darker.
“This Friday night Dark and Naked Party is a great thing. Lots of people, a mixed crowd. And everyone is horny.”
– Hotbull forum
Every Friday, the Dark and Naked Party is essentially the highlight of the day and attracts a large crowd. If we say it’s like a dark room filled to capacity, but spread out over a much larger area, you can imagine what kind of party it is… Every Sunday afternoon, we also host the Dark Party.
On Thursdays in the afternoon, we hold our Wellness Day, which offers a little taste of Finnish sauna culture. Our sauna infusion (aufguss) program is especially popular with guests who also enjoy visiting us for the wellness experience.
From time to time, we have a Saturday evening where we order pizza—this is the Bear Party. This night is for big, hairy, bearded guys, as well as for those who are into them. Oh, and it’s also for anyone who loves pizza…
Every Sunday there is Magnum After between 3:00 AM and 7:00 AM, during which club members receive a discounted entry fee. It’s worth taking advantage of this if you’re coming from a party but don’t want to go home yet… or if you’re looking for a place to spend some time, for example while waiting for the first morning train.
The key is body language. You’re walking around, someone approaches you, looks at you, smiles, slows down, then touches you… it’s clear that he likes you. You’re lying somewhere, someone stops at the doorway, looks at you, and stays. Someone follows you down the corridor—you slow down and glance back. If he’s looking for your eyes or slows down as well, then he wants something… If he walks past without a word, then probably not.
These subtle signals can be returned, though very often you might not notice them at first. Slow down, pay attention—over time you’ll start to notice them and you’ll gain confidence in getting to know others.
You can also communicate with words. Someone approaches you, you greet him, invite him aside, and tell him what you’d like.
And if you feel that this isn’t really your strength, there’s always the steam room, the dark room, the lounging area, and the glory hole… people are generally braver there. And if you want to get into a more intimate situation with someone, you can suggest continuing in a cabin.
“I personally have never experienced aggressive or pushy guys at Magnum. Everyone understands from a single gesture, a glance, or—if that’s still not enough—from a simple ‘thanks, but no.’”
– Pride Community forum
There are several ways to handle this, and people usually understand them all. You can gently push away someone’s hand if they’re touching you. You can move a bit farther away from the other person. You can leave the area altogether. You can also simply say, “Sorry, but no.” If you notice someone staring at you while you’re walking around and you’re not interested, you can avoid returning their gaze, look elsewhere, and keep moving.
No one will be offended by rejection. But if you notice that someone keeps trying—hoping you might change your mind—you can continue to turn down their advances.
